June 26 | Melissa Brady

When Melissa Brady steps on stage to sing or when she puts a pen to paper to write a song, when she stands in front of a classroom of music students and when she walks in her kitchen filled with family, the energy of the room rises from the enthusiasm she connects with the talents given her by God.Melissa’s early musical/spiritual development came from a decade of traveling with her mother and father in evangelistic ministry – which found her playing the piano and singing in a different church every week.

Melissa’s writing led to songs recorded by top groups and soloists which include the Booth Brothers, Ivan Parker, the Ruppes, the Whisnants, and the Shulers. Several of her songs have become top ten songs on the gospel music charts. Melissa is married to Jim Brady of a camp favourite - The Booth Brother.

July 03 | Robin Mark

The Belfast, Ireland resident Robin Mark, is most known for his 2006 Dove Award nomination for “Days of Elijah”. His five Integrity Music albums, Revival in Belfast, Come Heal This Land, Revival in Belfast 2, Days of Elijah and East of the River have become best sellers in America, Canada and throughout the world reaching number one spots in Praise and Worship charts in five separate countries. His songs have been translated into many different languages and cover the entire globe. This will be a worship moment as experienced by others around the world.

July 10 | The Collingsworth Family

Excitement, spiritual anointing, family-emphasis, and musical excellence are what you can expect to find when you experience a concert with The Collingsworth Family. Their two oldest daughters are quite proficient on the violin and their entire family sings together in an ensemble. Brooklyn, their 20 yr old daughter, joins them for most of the program in trio vocals. Kim is well-known for her phenomenal mastery of the piano and Phil for his astounding trumpet solos.

July 17 | Mark Harris (Partner’s Celebration)

Mark Harris - After 15 years with 4Him, a collaboration that resulted in 22 No. 1 hits and 8 Dove Awards, Mark Harris began his solo career. As a husband of 17 years and a father to two tweens, Mark understands the power of music and wants his music to make a difference in people’s lives. He has seen the impact songs have on people and believes that songs can make a difference when someone hears them at the right time.

Their musical influences immerge from all genres of music including bluegrass, rhythm and blues, folk, and country, contemporary acoustic and southern gospel.

For Jeff and Sheri, gospel music is genetically programmed into their DNA. As members of acclaimed musical families they grew up surrounded by the sound of people praising God through their musical gifts. Their children, Madison and Morgan travel and minister musically with them and the newest member Maura also finds herself on stage doing anything to make audience members smile. Jeff & Sheri have been nominated for numerous Dove Awards and won five. They’ve also received a Grammy nomination.

I want to talk about something, that can be a touchy subject if not handled with kids gloves (to some)—a subject that can be a great topic of controversy and heated discussions.

The topic is Ministry. My question to you the readers, is What is Ministry to you? What do you define as a Ministry.

Down town Peterborough, we have the Ministry of Natural Resources. There is Ministry of the Environment which we hear a lot about these days.

“Ministry” is from the Greek word diakoneo, meaning “to serve” or douleuo, meaning “to serve as a slave.” In the New Testament, ministry is seen as service to God and to other people in His name. Jesus provided the pattern for Christian ministry—He came, not to receive service, but to give it.

Now keep in mind, that this site, is basically for Gospel Music—and that’s why I’m asking this question. Is Gospel Music (Southern Gospel Music) a ministry? and if so, why do you think that? Also, if you think it is NOT, then please give your reasons.

as usual, I have my own thoughts and reasons, but this site is not all about me. I have a reason for asking this question and Hopefully, the responses from YOU may answer my question.

This will all lead into my next blog question. its top secret for now :)

so, once again, lets hear from you !!!

I want to talk about Gospel Music. I’d like to find out from people, what everyone thinks of “today’s “Gospel Music as a whole.

I know everyone has their preference—-for me, I prefer Southern Gospel style, but also enjoy many other ‘styles’.

Lets Talk about Southern Gospel and those who don’t necessarily like it—-why not? I’d like to know. How many of those who don’t like it, have even been to a concert? I know there are good and bad in any type of style or genre, but what reasons do you have?

Why do people flock to a Gaither Homecoming Concert at Air Canada Center in Toronto, and fill the place to the brims with 16,000 or more people—-and pay top notch dollar for it, but refuse to pay probably ½ that amount for a local concert.

How do we get NEW people to start coming to a Gospel concert? When I was doing concerts on a regular basis, bringing in groups such as the Couriers, The Torchmen, The Dixie Melody Boys, etc, we would have fairly good crowds, but a friend of mine said something to me back then—-he said, “look at all the white haired people here”, and then added, “in 10-15 years from now some of these white haired people won’t be around —-then what?”

He was right. I noticed my crowd numbers dwindling significantly. Where are all the new people? If this was the U.S.A, you could stand on a street corner and find a concert close by, and fill the place. Why not here?

What’s everyone’s take? Let’s hear from you

Phil
